A.    Definition

Job interview is a meeting between the company and the prospective employee to find out whether the candidate is suitable to be their employee. The company will ask questions related to the prospective employee's career. With this, prospective employees can also see whether the job offered is suitable or not.


B.    Expressions/Sentences

1)      Present your education and qualifications

·         I got a diploma in…. and then went on to study...

·         I graduated from (university/college etc) in (the year)…

2)      Tell us about your work experience and career

·         I worked for (company name) as a (job role)…

·         I am good at multi-tasking/working under pressure/working to a deadline…

3)      Describe your best work and what motivates you

·         I perform well under pressure.

·         I am self-motivated.

4)      Use intensifiers to make stronger statements

·         I am very organised and extremely focused.

·         I have very good people skills/management skills/organisational skills.

5)      Accentuate your language skills

C.   Ettiquette

  1. Wear neat and well-groomed clothes, and display a positive image to employers.
  2. Turn off the cell phone as it may interrupt the interview process.
  3. Bring additional resumes and have questions ready to ask the interviewer.
  4. Arrive early or on time.
  5. Greet the interviewer by shaking his hand.
  6. Ask the interviewer to repeat the question if you are not sure what they asked.
  7. Pay attention to the interviewer and don't interrupt.
  8. Thank the interviewer for the time given.
  9. Show your table manners.
  10. Be open and friendly to the interviewer.
